New
Parking Meters in Southport ready to accept new Pound coins
GOOD news for those parking in
Southport for a change, well goodish… Southport's new ticket machines have all
been now been updated again to take the new ₤1 coins as well as the old ₤1
coins. The new 12 sided, ₤1 coin will enter circulation, on Tuesday, 28 March
2017 and the old coins will be fully withdrawn, on 15 October 2017. After 15
October 2017, the round ₤1 will no longer be accepted, as it will no longer be
legal tender.
Ever since Sefton Council scrapped the old parking meters, the new meter
machines which were installed throughout Sefton have been reportedly working
well. We are told that motorists can be rest assured a repeat of the errors of
the past will not happen. Unlike events in 2014 and 2015 when the then outdated
parking meters left both tourists and locals alike, frustrated as the old
machines could not accept the then new coins, such as the "new"
5p. In some ways, free parking would be a better headline, but it's good to know
that Southport is now ahead of many other areas, in preparing their machines.
