Cassie Hayes Murder
FOLLOWING the killing of 28 year old
travel agent, Cassie Hayes, in Southport's Town Centre TUI branch, 30 year old
Andrew Burke, from St Helens, has appeared at Liverpool Crown Court. He was
facing a charge of murder and 1 of possessing an offensive weapon. We are told
that family and friends of Cassie broke down as the charges are read out.
Following his appearance at the Court, Andrew Burke remains in custody. We
are told that he has not made no bail application and will remain in custody
until 19 February 2018, when he will appear at another hearing in order to enter
a plea.
The trial is expected to start on 2 July 2018.
The family of Cassie Hayes have since paid tribute to her saying:- "Our
whole lives have been shattered. This has torn our hearts from our bodies.
Cassie was an amazing, kind human being who would do anything for anyone. She
doted on all her family and our loss is beyond calculation. We ask that our
family be left to grieve in private."
In a statement to the press, her partner Laura Williams said Ms Hayes was:-
"She was the most amazing, gorgeous, selfless and strong person I know. She
is my future wife and my forever."
The Coroner's Investigation Officer Albert Howard Murphy opened a hearing, at
Southport Town Hall, on Tuesday, 16 January 2018, into her death. After a brief
statement, the inquest was then adjourned the pending the outcome of the
criminal investigation in to Cassie's death.
Southport's Conservative MP Damien Moore asked Prime Minister Theresa May to
extend her condolences to Cassie's family during Prime Minister's Questions in
the House of Commons, on 17 January 2018. She said:- "Can I say to my
honourable friend I was. He told me about this very distressing case last night
and this is a horrific case. And I do extend my sympathies, and I'm sure the
whole House extends their sympathies and condolences to Cassie Hayes' family and
friends at this tragic incident, death, that has occurred. I also congratulate
the emergency services on the action they have taken but also from the
description my honourable friend gave to me last night I think we should also
have some thought and care for all those who were sadly witnesses to this
particular incident through no fault of their own, other than happening to be in
a particular premises at a particular time."
The travel agency has remained closed since the
incident and floral tributes have been
stacking up outside.
A 'Go Fund Me' page has been set up for Cassie, who we are told
has a 3 year old daughter and the funds will be to help Cassie's family as they
