TIME is running out to have your say about a managed zone for prostitutes in Liverpool.
Liverpool City Council wants to hear what you think, about a specialised area for sex trade workers in the city.
A particularly in-depth consultation is currently being carried out by experts at the Centre for Public Health, Liverpool John Moore's University. It is due to be completed in the next few weeks, so local residents and businesses have a last chance to have their say before it's completed.
Assistant Executive Director for Community Safety, John Sayers, said:-
"We want to make sure that our consultation is as accurate as possible and that it reflects all the diverse views of the people of this city.
This is a complex and sensitive issue, and whether someone is for or against a managed zone, we want to hear about it."
The consultation report will say how groups such as residents, local businesses, community groups and the prostitutes themselves feel about a managed zone. It will also recommend an area which would be acceptable for a managed zone, and is most likely to produce positive results.
One of the main aims of the managed zone is to take prostitution away from residential areas and into a part of the city that can be monitored effectively. In this zone, the sex trade would be allowed to operate between set times. Prostitutes would have access to health services and advice about how to get off "the
game".
