Westcoast win the spectacular firework competition!
A packed out Kings
Gardens in Southport witnessed a glittering display of
pyrotechnical wizardry above the Marine Lake.
Between Friday 23 September and Sunday 25 September, massive
crowds packed the west banks of the Marine Lake as
explosions of colour showered down from the sky when six
teams battled it out to see who would be crowned the 2005
British Musical
Fireworks Champions.
On the Friday night Artillery, from the 103 Regiment Royal
Artillery, Lancashire Artillery Volunteers, who fired off
blanks to the tune of the popular 1812 Overture to mark the
start of the event. Despite the high winds which made firing
conditions difficult, on the Friday night Westcoast
Fireworks Company from Narberth, Penbrokeshire gave their
stunning display which subsequently gained them the title,
the £3,000 cheque and the trophy.
The
following night's fireworks were shot up in perfect
conditions and again the astounding spectacle of
fireworks on a dark sky brought smiles to the faces of
so many. Interestingly, all of the 5 firework teams had
one thing in common, they all used electronic firing
systems to synchronise perfectly their displays. Only
one team did it the old fashioned way, by hand, and that
was Chester Pyrotechnics. This did not hamper their
display. The competitors this year were:- Friday
night... Fireworks Scotland Ltd & Westcoast Fireworks
Company; Saturday night... Allstars Fireworks & MLE
Pyrotechnics; Sunday night... Chester Pyrotechnics &
Star Fireworks..
