Southport Christmas Lights Switch-On 2008
SOUTHPORT'S
Christmas Lights were switched on Sunday,
16 November 2008 with a fantastic show that started at around 2:30pm
on Lord Street outside the Southport Art's Centre. The event
incorporated an amazing carnival that snaked down Lord Street, with
floats covered in lights and playing loud music. In between
dancers and other entertainers filled the gaps. The end of the
event was the big switch-on of the Champion Christmas Lights.
On stage was former Coronation Street Star Sherrie Hewson, Bernie
Nolan from the Bill, Sam Kane (Brookside and Our Benny), and of
course Farther Christmas with local radio stars as well! We would
like to say a big 'well done' to the Champion
Newspaper, especially to their editor, Martin Hovden and Sue Dare,
for lighting up the town once again for Christmas! We will let
the photos say the rest.

Appeal following an aggravated burglary, North Road, Aigburth,
Liverpool
MERSEYSIDE
Police are appealing for witnesses following an aggravated burglary
at a house on North Road, Aigburth, on Sunday, 16 November 2008.
At about 7.20pm the 55 year old occupant of the address was putting
the wheelie bins outside when two men sneaked in to his home and
stole the keys to two cars parked on the driveway. Black Range
Rover Vogue and an Audi Saloon.
The occupant's wife spotted the men as they were leaving and in a
bid to stop them from stealing the cars, a black Range Rover Vogue
and an Audi Saloon - she ran outside, shut the gates to the driveway
and stood in front of them. Fortunately the victim was able to
push his wife out of the way as the offenders escaped in the Range
Rover Vogue (registration DG05 YKH). They drove straight
through the gates. About 20 minutes later the Range Rover was
reversed at speed through a garden fence in Maiden Lane, Clubmoor,
before driving off at speed. Within minutes the driver of the
Range Rover became involved in a confrontation with the driver of
another Vauxhall Astra and then attempted to ram the other vehicle.
The driver of the Range Rover lost control and the vehicle rolled on
to its side. The offenders in the Range Rover then escaped -
fortunately the driver of the Astra was uninjured. The
offenders are described as white males and when they left the
address in North Road they were wearing scarves around their heads.
Crime Scene Investigators have attended at all three scenes to carry
out forensic examinations and house-to-house enquiries are being
conducted. DCI Peter Parry,
said:- "I am appealing to anyone who may have information in
relation to the burglary at North Road and the subsequent incidents
involving the stolen Range Rover to help us. Fortunately,
although a frightening experience, no-one was injured in any of
these incidents, but it could easily have been a different story."
Anyone who has any information regarding these incidents should
contact Admiral Street CID on 0151 777 5364, or Crimestoppers on
0800 555 111.
