THE Southport Christmas Lights were officially switched on at the annual Christmas Lights Switch On and Parade, which was held on Sunday, 17 November 2013. The event was well attended with hundreds of people packing into the town centre to see the activists on offer. The lights this year were switched on by some of the cast members of Southport Theatre Panto 'Jack and the Beanstalk' along with Father Christmas. This year's lights have been heavily affected by Sefton Council's budget cuts we have been informed, but for Toucan Events and the host of volunteers, Southport would not have had a Christmas Light Switch On this year at all, so we have to say, well done to all who took part in the event and making it happen... Did you attend the event? Let us know what you think about the event and also the lights themselves, by emailing us to:-
news24@southportreporter.com.
Also, please support the massive Christmas Lights Switch On
which event is taking place on Sunday, 24 November in Formby
Village. For more information on that day long event please

Just to add
on top of all this, that
Wayfarers Shopping Arcade in Southport is amazing! Go take a look at the tree and also the other decorations... If you have a business and you think your Christmas display is worth a photograph or 2, please let us know and we will try and send a photographer to snap it... Or email your snaps to our newsroom!
Parks'
pictures provide perfect present!
LOOKING
for a Christmas present which shows Liverpool at its best? The
2014 Liverpool Parks Calendar which features stunning pictures
of the city’s parks and green spaces is now available. 12 of the
best pictures contributed by members of the public for the 2013
'People's Parks Photography Competition', run by the
Liverpool Parks Friends Forum, feature in the calendar. The
Forum had the tough task of looking through hundreds of pictures
to pick the most outstanding for the calendar. “The
calendar is always a popular present. It not only illustrates
superbly our wonderful parks and green spaces, but shows what
talented and creative people we have in the City.” said
Councillor Peter Mitchell, Mayoral Lead on parks.
The
calendar, which was sponsored by the Reader Organisation and
Riverside Housing costs £3.99 and is available from:-
► Ferraiolo's Cafe in Sefton
Park.
► The Boating Lake Kiosk in
Sefton Park.
► Newsham Park kiosk.
► Active Adventures Cafe,
Otterspool Park and Prom.
► Gift Shop at Croxteth Country
Park (open weekends).

together, and provides a voice for, around 30 Friends groups
from around the City.

Christmas Lights Switch On Is Nearly Here!
THE final
preparations for the switch on of the Formby Christmas
Lights are underway. This year, for the first time, the
event will replace the Dickensian Day and will happen on 24
November 2013 from 12 noon to 6:30pm. The event will have
Farther Christmas, live music, traditional Christmas attractions
and lots more. This will be truly a
community event that cannot be missed. If
everything goes to plan, this event will put Liverpool and
Southport's Lights Switch On events to shame! The lights this year
have been funded by the local businesses and local people, but
as you can see from the preparations taking place, they should
make the village centre look very magical and festive.
Also, if you do attend and take a wander around the open air
activities and stalls, do not forget to support the businesses
who made this happen, so pop in and see what presents you can
find for your loved ones!
